SRAM EX1 - the world's first circuit for e-mountain bikes!

"Since the first completely down-dated and old bicycles of American newspaper boys have been modified for mountains, gravel and forest, everything has been about to defy tradition and to improve driving The world's first propulsion system developed specifically for the requirements of e-mountain bikes, the EX1 cartridge is the heart of this group, with the proven SRAM 1x technology as its DNA, enabling optimum gear changes and more precise gear shifting The EX1 opens the door to a beautiful new world of mountain biking. "EX1 opens the door to a beautiful new world of mountain biking.

In this way, SRAM praises the newly developed technology in its flyer. But why does it really need a separate E-MTB circuit?

The drive of an E-MTB is one of the most stressed parts with the highest wear. Thus, defects are frequent, especially the chain is often to be replaced by the high stress. It was not enough to simply install a more stable chain, SRAM has developed a whole drive with complementary components that are specially designed for the needs of e-mountain bikes. Cranks and chainrings, gears, gearshift lever and cassette are precisely tuned to achieve the best performance.

"Only when the gearshift process is defined and accurate, the drive will in the long term withstand the enormous forces on the e-mountain bike and the chain is spared," explain the developers of SRAM. Multiple shifts in e-mountain biking are usually the rule, with a thumb-slit are often 2 or more gears switched. This does not leave the circuit of the new EX1 to - only one gear is shifted per thumb gap, so a clean gear change is possible and the chain and the cassette are spared. The gear change is very gentle, even at full load, as our test drivers also confirm.

An overview of the components in detail:

EX1 Electric crank handle

The lightweight, rugged, stiff EX1 crankarms designed specifically for the Bosch and Brose mid-size engines are perfect for E-MTBs with high torque.

EX1 X-Horizon rear derailleur

The EX1 rear derailleur uses the robust design and the precise switching characteristics of the X-Horizon design and combines it into the world's first derailleur, which has been specially developed for e-mountian bikes. The EX1 derailleur has been designed for high torque and gearshifting cadence in an e-block cassette with 11 to 48 teeth. This allows the driver to always have clean, reliable gearshifts, so he can concentrate on his or her driving.

EX1 X-Actuation trigger switch

The EX1 switch has the proven SRAM switch technology and provides a reliable feel on the lever. It has been developed for precise and defined switching operations in order to prevent "double" or too far switching. Precise individual gear changes ensure a longer battery life and a slower wear on the components.

EX1 chain

For the high torque of E-MTBs, robust components are required. The straight chain line of the EX1 allows a wider and more stable chain to be used than the drives, which were not specially developed for E-MTBs. The 8-speed EX1-chain offers a high friction during the gear change and allows a greater power transmission to the rear wheel.

EX1 XG-899 E-block cassette

The E-Block switching technology is a fundamental new development for chain circuits. On the E-block cassette, the chain has a fixed link position on each pinion. The pinions were designed to work with inner and outer chain links. This allows an optimum switching power inside and out. The result is precise and sturdy shifting in any situation, even with full engine support.

The components of SRAM EX1 will soon be available in our shop, in the new TREK POWERFLY 9, in the TREK POWERFLY FS9 and, of course, in the TREK POWERFLY FS9 + LT, the new EX1 drive has already been installed with great success!

The newly developed EX1 drive has also not been undetected in the press and media, SRAM has published feedback from some media - here a small excerpt:
